Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the correct place, but I'll give it a shot!

I've been thinking recently of continuing my academic studies,
hopefully getting started in the next few years. So I'm really trying
to do my research and find out as much information as I can.

Two of the places I've been looking at have masters programs in
Buddhist studies, Naropa University in Colorado
(http://www.naropa.edu/) and Maitripa in Oregon
(http://www.maitripa.org/academic_main.html).

Naropa offers two "Master of Arts degrees in Indo-Tibetan Buddhism",
with and without language (Tibetan). While Maitripa has a "MA in
Buddhist Studies program".

So, I was wondering if anyone has any firsthand knowledge of either of
these two schools and the programs? I've read some nice reviews about
Naropa and have heard a few mentions on the "Buddhist Geeks" podcast
but I'd really like to ask a few questions from people that have
attended these schools or at least have some insider knowledge.

Plus, if anyone knows of any other accredited schools with Buddhist studies programs, I'd love to hear about them!

Thanks for any help!

Hi Miles,

I haven't attended either, but I have heard good things about Naropa University.
Hopefully someone else will add. That's wonderful that you're looking for Buddhist graduate studies!

Hi Drolma,

Thanks very much! It will be a bit of a challenge to make everything
work out (expenses, taking time off from work, relocating the family
temporarily, etc...). That's why it will still be a few years until I
can make it a reality. But I do feel that it is a worth while pursuit.

I've really heard some great things about Naropa too. It is a little on the expensive side, but what isn't anymore! Wink

One positive thing, Naropa does offer some Internet courses that count
as credit for the masters program. This might be one way to "get my
feet wet".
