Buddha Bar Empty Buddha Bar

Post by kiman Sun Feb 22, 2009 12:42 pm

Hello friends,

I want to share about this one. Buddha Bar was opened in Indonesia November 2008. I think this is the time for a cattle going to be "DHUARR"...

IMO: sad, using my Guru's name for something far from Dharma. It's contradictory with with Dharma.

Some of you should be known about this one. And I want to know, what's your people (Buddhists of course) opinion in your country? And what's your opinion?

it looks like a Temple to me...very beautiful...not a raunchy type place....i wonder what the intensions of the creator of this place were....is he/she a Buddhist ?

Bodhisattvas are even in Brothels....
Buddhas are everywhere......

This is interesting....sounds like he incorporated his love for eastern spiritual influences into his life.....also many people are employed...so they can feed their families....i think his intensions were good in creating this beautiful place...and dosn't Buddha want people to enjoy life ? Were not all monks !! Smile

Her name Smile http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2008/10/26/chilling-out-with-buddha.html

Reading the comments from residents there in Jakarta, i can understand the concern..most people are living in poverty...and here comes the posh Buddha Bar...catering to the rich and famous....i can see how Buddhists can be upset...as Buddha renounced such things as alcohol.........

It's also amazing that (one of the owners) is Moslem (they also forbid drinking alcohol).

But i really don't think the intensions of Buddha Bar creators were to slander Buddha or Buddhism...they probebly thought Buddha was cool...as the original owner-creator of the Buddha Bar traveled extensively in the east and was inthralled with eastern culture....

I'm sorry if i do not agree to condem this controversial issue....i can see both sides.....but also if there was a Allah Bar i'm sure there would be uprisings...and they wouldn't be peaceful.....

i don't know what the solution is....i just hope it's peaceful.... _/\_

There are a lot of people in Indonesia slummy/poor. Therefore, they only search for money, no matter what & how their do. Even a rich man never be satisfied.

It's complicated. This is the reason why I put this problem in here. May solution will come later.

Yes. There are so many people searching for money and possessions. I never was in your country Kiman, saw only pictures in books and those look like paradise. While in that paradise are many poor of possessions. Altruism all over the world should take the root of that problem away I think.
Indeed rich people are never satisfied and want more and more. They are slaves from their desires.

Last night this issue kept rolling around in my head....i couldn't get to sleep !!!!
i thought about how people need jobs and how any business that is succesful can help the economy.....

i thought of the beautiful statue of Buddha sitting in the Buddha bar...serene and unruffeld by what was going on.....and maybe that's a good attitude...i'm sure there are other activities going on in Jakarta that need serious attension......

i thought of how we make offerrings to Buddha...beautiful music,flowers,food,perfume,water,...all the things that the Buddha Bar provides for the customers (also Buddhas !)

The money earned by working/doing business with Buddha Bar is providing food,shelter,medical care, etc,for the working poor.....

The positives seem to outweigh the negatives IMHO.

Not all rich peole are selfish & greedy...many have big hearts and help the sufferring people in this world.....maybe some of the revenue earned by Buddha Bar is helping organizations to rebuild Indonesia from the damage caused by the tsunami/earthquakes.....

@Muni
Agree, plus our body and our speech.

@Kunga
lol...
I will investigate with my friends, and I will give the report later. But we need a lot of time. FYI, Buddha Bar is NOT helping organizations to rebuild Indonesia. I've never heard Buddha Bar helping people. As far as I see, the owner uses Buddha Bar for money.

Of course, not all rich people are selfish and greedy... If they all were selfish and greedy, I could not get the Dharma... Very Happy

What is the meaning of "Bar"?

Bar : http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/bar

also...if the Buddha Bar in Jakarta is not presently contributiong to charity...maybe citizens can address this issue with them....and maybe they will see the light

(that way they can gain merit)
