Where do you buy your dharma supplies? As a TB practitioner, I've found that this store has really good prices and all the items I've purchased have been good quality.

Also, where do you buy your incense? I used to use Ebay, but now I like to use mainly use Red Crystal for offering and I can't find Red Crystal very often on Ebay. What's your favorite kind of incense to use?

The Drikung red crystal is a nice incense. That is a nice one for peaceful practice, meditation. As a simple pointer for anyone interested, one must be very careful with incense if one is doing wrathful guardian practices and smoke offerings for instance, incense can contain animal extracts that obviously are not good to offer. So in that regard, knowing what it contains can be a boost to ones practice.

Having never used Tibetan incense before, I was curious...Must they be used with a burner box? I have used sandalwood cone incense and more recenly nag champa sticks which have a small wood part which can fit in an incense holder. I am looking to find some better incense, as I think the nag champa is still a bit fragrant and I'm not sure of the ingredients of the cone incense.

Any suggestions?

Hi Malalu,

I don't have a lot of money so I've been creative. I bought a pretty little ceramic bowl at Target and filled it with rice. I stick the Tibetan incense in the container and the rice makes the sticks stand up straight and catches the ashes. I don't have to change the rice that frequently so it's not expensive. I mention this because Tibetan incense is thicker than other kinds and don't fit in an incense-holder with a small hole.

I like beautiful things, but my shrine is very modest for now. Simple water offerings placed in front of an image of my guru (on a single designated shelf on the wall) is working well for the moment.

I love Tibetan incense. It reminds me of the peace of the gompa at the retreat center I attended last year. I might recommend Red Crystal for offerings. If you have any concerns about breathing smoke from incense I could find you some very safe, natural ones. Namdrol once recommended at e-sangha some incense that's safer to breathe, and I'd just need to find that thread. I bought them and they smelled very nice. Tibetan Sandalwood smells good and is usually less expensive than other scents.

This is where I get my incense and prayer flags. It's cheaper than the other places I used to get them - and their incense is far superior. I get the 'Sun Rise' Tibetan incense which is made in Nepal.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I suppose that the thickness of these incenses would give off more smoke than I am accustomed to with the skinnier ones? I burn a few candles anyways and there is always a window nearby that can be opened.

Look forward to trying a few out.

How auspicious! I have a new age sort of shop real close by and decided to go and see what they had in the way of Tibetan incense. Turns out they do have a bit of a selection there.

I ended up getting some Kalachrakra, Snow Lion and Potala incense at a reasonalble price They didn't have Drikung Red Crystal).

From the packaging, the potala suggested that this particular incense is best to use on auspicious days and for ceremonies...I generaly will use tham for daily offering and meditation. any thoughts?

I laughed when I read an old post. I can't believe what I was using for incense before. Sheesh....

Now I sometimes use Kalachakra, I like Kailash and I recently tried some of the Lama Chodpa incense from the Tashi Jong monastery. Very nice....

Will try red crystal if I see it out and about.
