Tsa Lung & Trul Khor Empty Tsa Lung & Trul Khor

Post by Gerry Sat Nov 28, 2009 11:34 am

Hello everybody,

I know things are winding down a little here, but a link muni posted recently reminded me of something...

movement - physical yogas and what a boon to practice they can be for both the body and mind.

The Hindu Yogis have Hatha Yoga and in the non-Buddhist traditions the list of movement forms seems to go on and on - Qi-gong, Tai Chi, etc. In Bön there is Tsa Lung and Trul Khor. In my daughters Nyingmapa lineage there is Kum Nye.

Some of the Tibetan Traditions keep the physical yogas a little secret, teaching them only much later in one's development, typically to help facilitate clearing obstacles encountered on the long retreats.

Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche and Tarthang Tulku take a slightly different approach teaching the physical yogas early on.

As one Bönpo Lama I know put it - "We only need two thiings in this life; Tsa Lung for our physical health and a connection to [Protector Diety] will take care of the rest - for this and all future births".

As one of Tarthang Tulku's Kum Nye instructors put it - "It [Kum Nye] takes care of the body and the mind at the same time."

So I just wanted to throw this out there, in case anybody may be having difficulties, there is another angle as well.

Best wishes,
Gerry

There is Tsalung and Trulkhor practice among Tibetan Buddhist practice traditions as well.

And from what I understand from TWR and TT's teaching, they only teach the physical aspects of the practice. There is very little about the visualisations, mantras, and other stuff like that. In essesnce, it is no different from Hatha Yoga.

Excellent! I never said there wasn't - I said some keep them secret.

Personally I find Kum Nye, Tsa Lung and Trul Khor extremely different from Hatha Yoga (Tai Chi, Qi-gong, etc.)

Tarthang Tulku - correct, until you get far enough along in the Teachings.

Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche - incorrect and it becomes deeper as you progress.

Best wishes.
