would you expect him to help pay the bills ?
or cook and clean to earn his keep ?
or would he be treated as royalty or a Buddha ???

She could earn her keep with dharma drops.
My guru worked so hard her whole life. She raised a family and worked cleaning houses to get by when she moved to the west. When I first met her she chided me in a sweet way and said, "My children are older than you!" Even though she worked so hard and was so busy she was often asked to teach. And when her family-work was done she was asked to return to her role as a teacher. Now she's older and still working so hard, traveling to transmit precious dharma. All of this is info available from her public biography so it's no secret.
So if she were to finally retire in my home, I imagine I'd treat her as I would my own mother and not expect anything other than her presence. But if I were super-lucky maybe I could get some dharma drops and maybe collect some merit.
What about you, dear Kunga? What would you do if your guru came to stay?
Re: What would you do if.......
it's a real possibility......due to circumstances...he has been close to me for a long time...been to my house many times...
i've had this hole in my ceiling for years...gets bigger every week...i'm making an attempt to get that fixed (for his sake)...
i haven't been a very good housekeeper (for myself)...it is neverending with teenagers and their friends...and with me working and comming home to fix dinner after working all day...i get burned out and don't want to do anything when i have spare time...except for enjoyable stuff...sometimes i do enjoy cleaning tho...but i have let my house literally fall apart.....so ...i've been wanting to paint all the rooms and make everything nice and clean....and now with the possibility of my teacher comming to live here...i feel compelled to get things done soon !!!!
i don't want my teacher to do mundane work...i would love for him to relax and enjoy doing whatever makes him happy....i would love it if he could teach more regularly and kick my butt into action with something....other than the usual stuff......but come to think of it...i will be getting my butt kicked if he came here...because i will be cooking and cleaning more rigorously...and really have to watch my mouth and my actions !!!!
i can not let my guard down and see him as an ordinary person....but as a Buddha....i do behave somewhat causual sometimes around him...i have to just be "myself" tho....i also feel like he is "family" ....so i am comfortable around him
knowing him tho...he won't be sitting around doing nothing....he wants to work....but i think he's wasting him time with mundane work...and should be teaching instead...it's along story................................

well...due to more circumstances...looks like my teacher will be employed again...and will not have to move in with me....(he is presently not formally teaching like he was when i first met him)...he decided to work instead of teach for a living...long story................................

Re: What would you do if.......
i felt like a shmuck when i saw her for the first/last time (for white or green tara empowerment).....
i forgot to bring a kata.....
i asked someone if i could borrow theirs (many times i have done this for others)...
but they wouldn't let me use theirs......
so i went up to her empty handed.....probebly the only person ever to not offer a kata to her.....i felt like a loser.....

Re: What would you do if.......
That is very weird that no one would loan you a kata. I would have given you mine. :frown:
I'll bet that Jetsunma didn't mind much though /\
